A big development recently occurred on the college football recruiting trail when Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment. The 5-star quarterback (who is the No. 1 player in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings ) announced last Thursday that he would be enrolling at Michigan, rather than LSU.
More substantial news could be coming in the near future. College football’s early signing period has been bumped up to early December and will be occurring from Dec. 4-6 this year, meaning many recruits will take the opportunity to sign their national letters of intent.
Sure, some will wait until the traditional national signing day on Feb. 5. But a big flurry of decisions and moves will come next week.
Here’s everything you need to know heading into the early signing period for the 2025 class.

Underwood may not be the final top-ranked 2025 recruit to flip to Michigan. There’s plenty of time left for the Wolverines to pursue other blue-chip players who previously committed elsewhere and potentially get them to change their minds.
According to ESPN’s Eli Lederman , 5-star defensive lineman Isaiah Gibson could be “difficult to flip,” due to his long-standing commitment to Georgia. However, that may not stop Michigan from trying, as it offered the Warner Robins, Ga., native last Friday.
Lederman also noted that the Wolverines are expected to pursue 5-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood (an Alabama commit) and 4-star wide receiver Derek Meadows (an LSU commit).
So Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is clearly still hard at work …
