Global Energy has confirmed that pre-fabrication works for the 20-meter subsea cable storage baskets, each weighing approximately 80 tons, are ongoing at its Invergordon facility located at the Port of Cromarty Firth, with the final assembly, painting, and storage taking place at the Port of Nigg.

Dave MacKay, General Manager of Global Energy Group Fabrication at the Port of Nigg, commented: “We’re pleased to be working with Briggs Marine on this important project, which further showcases our fabrication capabilities and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions to the subsea and offshore industries. We look forward to delivering these assets to the highest standard, utilising our fabrication facilities at both Invergordon and Nigg.”

Designed with removable lids, these baskets will serve as components for storing the subsea cable for SSEN Distribution, should their network require a repair or replacement. The latest contract award is said to highlight the UK firm’s growth in supporting critical infrastructure across the renewables, subsea, and marine sectors.

Craig English, Briggs Marine’s Renewable, Subsea & Environmental Services Director, noted: “The placement of this construction contract further demonstrates Briggs’ continued growth and commitment in subsea cable maintenance, repair and installation for distribution, transmission and renewable energy infrastructure.”

According to Global Energy, it continues to be at the forefront of the national energy transition, supporting the UK’s net zero and energy security targets while maximizing opportunities arising from Britain’s offshore energy industry.

A few months ago, the firm disclosed plans to launch a recruitment drive to cover key fabrication operations at one of its facilities, following a new contract with Subsea7.
